JUVENILE VIOLENCE EXPERT: Dr. James E. Shaw is a California Superior Court-Certified Expert providing pre-trial and at-trial criminal and civil case consultation and forensic testimony.
Summary of Experience:
Over twenty-five years of professional experience with juveniles, as a school teacher, administrator, and researcher. Dr. Shaw serves on the Panel of Experts of the Los Angeles Superior Court. He also teaches a law course, Administration of Justice: Juvenile Delinquency and Legal Procedures, at the El Camino Police Academy. He has been a member of the Child Death Review Committee of the Los Angeles County Interagency Council Against Abuse and Neglect (I.C.A.N.). He is also a member of the California Gang Investigators’ Association. He was a keynote speaker at the first annual Columbine High School (Littleton, Colorado) memorial ceremony. TRIAL magazine (Association of Trial Lawyers of America) has interviewed him.
Serving both plaintiffs and defendants, Dr. Shaw has provided expert witness testimony in regular as well as "odd" and unusual casesfrom the celebrity Conga Room homicide to a U.S. Navy court-martial to a federal court gang bank robbery case to an Uzi-related triple murder trial to child abuse, street terrorism and gang homicide cases. His nationally-acclaimed book, Jack and Jill, Why They Kill, has earned him a frequent and favored-guest spot on the NBC Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, MSNBC Live, O'Reilly Factor, FOX News, CBS News, and ABC News.
B.R.A.V.E. ("Be Resilient Avoid Violence Everywhere") is a standards-based violence prevention and gang education curriculum written by Dr. Shaw for middle and high school students. B.R.A.V.E. was cited by the FBI/ATF Philadelphia Regional Office as "an example of best community practices." The California State Legislature presented Dr. Shaw with its "Certificate of Recognition."
