Credentials:
Martin M. Buncher holds a Masters Degree in Industrial Psychology (USC -1964) and has 45 years experience in the field of strategic planning, marketing research and marketing consulting. He has worked extensively in various areas including:
- litigation support involving civil and criminal cases
- consumer and industrial products and services research and analysis
- advertising communications research and testing
- expert witness testimony
- social issues (community redevelopment, government programs and policies)
- political issues (candidates and propositions)
- the entertainment industry.
He has personally conducted over 500 secondary research projects, 5000 focus groups, and 1500 quantitative investigations, most of which have been ad hoc or custom-designed programs.
He has provided his services domestically in almost all states in the U.S. as well as many about 85 countries, including those in North, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, the South Pacific, and Africa.
Beginning his consulting career in 1963 with Audience Studies Inc (ASI) a company, which specialized originally only in syndicated in-theater advertising research, he was responsible for their expansion into ad hoc and more sophisticated services. After several years with that company and having reached the level of West Coast Director-Projects and Sales, he joined Creative Research Associates as Vice President and began to focus even more heavily on new technology and ad hoc design.
In the early seventies he joined Haug Associates as Vice-President, Director of International Research and Consulting. At the time, Haug was the largest ad hoc marketing research firm in the country. After serving as Executive Vice President, he left to begin his own company.
Founding IMI Inc. in 1977, he had already established a national reputation as a leading qualitative specialist, having published numerous articles and abstracts in innovative techniques and strategies, and assisting in textbook preparation on marketing research, marketing communications and strategic planning.
In 1989, after a few years of experimenting with various approaches, he began providing a variety of specialized services to clients in the legal profession, including Jury Trial Simulation, Juror Selection, Voire Dire, Witness Preparation, Argument/Strategy Pre-testing, and Supportive Survey and Secondary Research.
He has been a guest professor at the University of California and San Diego State University.
He has served as Vice-President and Member of the Board of the national American Marketing Association (AMA), as well as being similarly active in the American Society of Trial Consultants (ASTC), California Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA), American Psychological Association (APA), Marketing Research Association (MRA), European Society for Marketing And Opinion Research (ESOMAR), and San Diego Advertising Association.
He currently serves as managing director of IMI, Inc. Clients reflect a cross-section of manufacturers and service providers in the U.S. and foreign markets, as well as domestic law firms, government, social, and political agencies.
Relative experience in fields related to the case at hand can be beneficial. However, the best litigation support comes from the consultant's expert ability to isolate and understand in a given environment the perceptions, understanding, resultant attitudes and behavior of individuals in response to specific stimuli.
Working in this arena calls for an understanding of both consumer and industrial psychology, the focal point of Mr. Buncher s background. His long term and diversified experience along with his skill in quickly assimilating the issues at hand and their implications relative to trial outcome have generated a track record admired by his peers and appreciated by this clients in the legal profession.
