Summary of Experience

Mr. Mellor acquired a background in Physics during his undergraduate years at UCLA. His studies included classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism and quantum mechanics. Mr. Mellor’s academic experience included creating mathematical models/simulations of physical systems using the MATLAB software package, as well as investigating physical phenomenon by performing experiments in the physics laboratory.

Mr. Mellor applies his knowledge of classical mechanics, involving Newton’s Laws, in the field of accident reconstruction. He uses a scientific approach when analyzing accidents, and with his background in problem solving and analysis, Mr. Mellor is able to analyze physical evidence left as a result of an accident to reconstruct the accident. From this evidence, he is able to calculate vital quantities involved in accident reconstruction such as the speed of impact, change in velocity, and accelerations experienced by a vehicle as a result of a collision. Mr. Mellor also uses the evidence and facts of a particular accident to perform time/distance analyses, evaluate witness and driver statements and assess red light disputes.

Mr. Mellor uses his knowledge and skills in physics and accident reconstruction to prepare forensic animations for use both in and out of the courtroom in order to demonstrate opinions in a visual manner. Mr. Mellor has been accredited as a Traffic Accident Reconstructionist by the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR #2186). He is also a member of the Southwestern Association of Technical Accident Investigators. Mr. Mellor has provided expert testimony regarding accident reconstruction at trials, depositions, and arbitrations in both Civil and Criminal Court.
